Michael Degtjarewsky began taking photographs as a teenager with his father, a gifted artist whose talents included sculpture, painting and woodwork in addition to photography. Growing up with creativity and artistry in his blood as well as his household, he developed his eye for composition and light.

Michael’s love for photography is complemented by his deep appreciation for the natural beauty of the Eastern Sierras in Southern California. Since he was a teenager, he has made regular trips to photograph mountain landscapes in Yosemite, Bishop, June Lake, Mono Lake and Mt. Whitney. In recent years he has also discovered the rugged beauty of Big Sur in Northern California and the colorful slot canyons of Page, Arizona.

His work over the past thirty years has spanned a variety of formats and techniques. He currently shoots mostly medium format, digital, and black and white infrared. The photographs featured here are available framed or unframed and printed in archival inks on fine art paper.
